Adding touch capable fingers to a zentai suit

Postby latexwolf » Wed Dec 30, 2015 10:36 pm

Has anyone got any ideas for adding touch capable material to one or multiple fingers on a zentai suit?

eg: use of a modern phone is very difficult and sometimes works, sometimes doesn't with touch thanks to the lycra fingers.

I know you can get pointers/pens/etc but is there a material you could bond to the lycra to make using a smart phone easier?

Remembered a similar problem being asked about in the fursuit community, sucks being in fursuit and the touch sensitive buttons in a elevator not working for you. Found the article in question, dates from 7 years ago but the link that someone gave still works. Might be worth a look.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitive_sensing

its a long read. worth it .

In simple terms. find some conductive fabric. caps use metal plates. in a human we are a salt water plate so to say.

If We can use some thing metal or relatively conductive it acts as the human plate.
electrostatics are fun to learn.Might I suggest some silver thread ESD rated fabric . its not cheap but thanfully its only for the finger tips..

If woven in heavy enough conductive thread from adafruit might be good enough.

Why not making your finger wet. That will make your finger conductive and... voila.

When suited, I use my thumb and middle finger to pinch the fabric, and then use my pointer to make selections. It works for texting at the very least.

A few years ago, back in 2010, I tried experimenting with metallic paint pens.

It works, but not quite as durable/reliable as I'd like.

I did recently get some conductive glue (glue with a lot of graphite in it) to test, but have not had a chance yet.

My phone has an increase touch sensitivity option that does the trick when my hand's all gloved up.

Aside from layering special gloves over your suit, you can use one of the methods described below. It really depends on how crafty you are and how much you value the suit. Do you want to make a permanent modification or reversible?
https://www.yo1utube.com/watch?v=ljN1vObUa5E This vid shows how to use conductive thread (DMC or Coats Metallic Thread). You cannot use just any shiny thread though. Try looking in a fabric or hobby store.
http://makezine.com/projects/no-sew-touchscreen-gloves/ This guy uses snap buttons on leather gloves. They make micro sized buttons that could work better on spandex. They can also be sewn on instead of hammered.

Just wanted to mention that my phone & tablet seem to work fine both through both lycra fingers and latex glove fingers.

Maybe phones work better nowadays?
